The Neuroscience Department within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge (US) is searching for a motivated and innovative PhD-level research investigator with demonstrated expertise in neurodegeneration. The candidate will lead a lab that develops and runs in vitro and in vivo assays to support the discovery and early development of pharmacological interventions addressing the pathological processes involved neurodegenerative diseases. A strong background in neuroscience and experience in neurodegeneration are essential for success.
This key role will support our discovery efforts to identify, validate and pursue targets in the neurodegeneration field to address the high medical needs in brain diseases such as AD, PD, ALS and MS.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Provide strategic and broad team leadership on drug discovery and/or early development projects and initiatives throughout the lifecycle
Lead broad technology development areas within the department and NIBR.
Utilize deep expertise to assesses impact, limitations, and added value of scientific activities in order to define team's strategic objectives, advance related projects, and/or significantly expand scientific/technical knowledge within one or several related areas

Minimum Requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
• PhD in Neuroscience or closely related discipline
• 4 years+ of Postdoc/Industry experience of drug discovery experience
• Expertise in biochemistry/molecular biology and neuronal culture
• Proven experience pursuing scientific investigation of (patho) physiology of neurodegeneration.
• Experience in in vitro and in vivo pharmacology.
• Demonstrated success in a team-oriented and collaborative culture.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $124,000 and $186,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/23 through 12/31/23, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
