Helmholtz Munich is globally recognized for innovations in data science and applied machine learning (ML), e.g. through its Institute of Computational Biology (ICB), the Institute of AI for Health (AIH) and by hosting the national platform Helmholtz AI. To further strengthen ML method development, we are intensifying our integration with the European Lab for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) via ELLIS Munich.

Your responsibilities
This role is a key position across our computational health labs as Horizon Europe shapes up to offer a range of exciting possibilities to apply ML to a range of health topics. The pre- and post-award grant manager will take responsibility for identifying funding opportunities EU-wide and for initiating and driving efficient proposal preparation as well as drafting substantial parts of the proposals. We expect the successful candidate to develop this position and tailor the comprehensive services provided as an integral part of our interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment.

This position is limited to one year, as maternity cover.

You will be

  • managing a broad range of workstreams centered around the identification of opportunities and the preparation of proposals for major grants, particularly in Horizon Europe
  • cultivating and stewarding interactions with various internal and external stakeholders
  • providing strategic guidance and operational structure for fundraising, particularly in Horizon Europe
  • enjoying freedom to shape your own initiatives
  • working in an agile environment
  • sharing our enthusiasm for promoting ML and nurturing our friendly, cooperative environment where everyone's contribution is valued

You have

  • a PhD in life, computer or natural science
  • native-equivalent written and verbal fluency in English
  • initiative and imagination
  • awareness and proven professional experience of various funding mechanisms
  • practical experience in science management
  • attention to detail and the ability to diligently manage a broad range of different responsibilities in your own time

Pluses

  • a data science background is considered a plus
  • a network among national and European funders is considered a plus
  • excellent written and verbal fluency in German is considered a plus
