Job Details

The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery department exists to serve MD Anderson research programs. Our primary mission is to provide the best possible veterinary care, facilities and services in support of the institutional animal care and use program, in keeping with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care accreditation standards.

Veterinary Medicine & Surgery

KEY FUNCTIONS

Ordering, Receipt, and Distribution of Items
  • Collects item requests from each section and processes in appropriate system.
  • Assists with review of item availability and pricing to maximize cost effectiveness.
  • Check shipments against packing list and purchase order for accuracy of count and description.
  • Tracks backorders for expected delivery and processes upon arrival.
  • Refers problems associated with inaccurate/damage shipments to supervisor and departmental buyer.
  • Completes hard copy and electronic records related to the receiving/return.
  • Assists with maintaining acceptable inventory levels of consumable supplies.
  • Monitors blanket and standing purchase orders for balance availability and communicates adjustment needs to departmental buyer.
  • Maintain proficiency in SciQuest, SharePoint, and other relevant systems.

Transportation of Animals & Equipment
  • Transporting of animals, supplies, and materials including, but not limited to, clean and soiled caging, between North and South Campuses, between buildings on South Campus, between facilities and warehouse.
  • Enter transport trip information accurately on Vehicle Use Report.
  • Serve as primary backup for vivarium shuttle operations.

Colony Management Data Entry
  • Data entry and review of colony management information into eSirius and other applicable systems.
  • In-processing of service request forms.
  • May perform general colony administrative support.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

Required: Two years experience in receiving, storing, and handling goods and equipment.
