Subject description

The subject includes machine learning methods for generative models intended for omics data, such as analysis and integration of omics data with cell-level or spatial resolution.


The duties include conducting research and supervising doctoral students in their research in the subject area. In addition, they involve establishing societal and academic collaborations nationally and internationally, specifically in the area of biomedical research. This can for example be collaboration with groups at SciLifeLab in relevant subject areas.

The duties include course responsibility, including supervision, developing courses, and teaching in the courses at the subject area’s basic, advanced, and postgraduate levels. This includes teaching in the department´s courses in machine learning, deep learning, and AI.

The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance.


SciLifeLab is a collaboration between four universities in Stockholm and Uppsala, Sweden: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. SciLifeLab is a national centre for large-scale biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The centre combines advanced technical know-how and state-of-the-art equipment with a broad knowledge in translational medicine and molecular bioscience.
