Job Details

The primary purpose of the Assistant Data Scientist position is to assist in analysis and development of bioinformatics algorithms and software tools for the analysis of high throughput omics biological and clinical data. This position contributes to the development and application of high-performance computational applications and pipelines to support the MD Anderson Proteomics and Metabolomics Platform research within the McCombs Institute.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Informatics and data pipeline for operations

* Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing data pipeline processes, database, and website for Platform
* Provides assistance in maintaining IT software and hardware including Windows and Linux workstations and servers, network storage, and databases

Data Analyses

* Analyzes data, evaluates results, and presents findings to internal project teams and collaborators
* Applies bioinformatics software and assists researchers in using computational tools.

Improvement projects

* Assists with writing computer codes to establish new computational pipelines.
* Under direction of the McCombs director, builds and deploys software applications according to project-specific objectives.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or related field.

Preferred: Master's Level Degree
