Closing Date - Will remain open until filled.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications for one full-time, tenure track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank in Mechatronics and Robotics. Candidates at the full Professor rank may be considered. This position is part of the University of Alberta's priority to build a diverse faculty. Candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups and those who value allyship alongside and equity for these groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have research expertise in the area of mechatronics and robotics, including electromechanical systems, robotic systems, controls, systems integration, autonomous systems, smart buildings and infrastructure, advanced agricultural machinery, soft robotics, collaborative robotics, fleet robotics, continuum robotics, mechatronic/biological systems integration, self-assembling systems, sensors and actuators, micro-actuators, construction automation, responsive micro-structures, artificial intelligence-assisted systems, human-assistive robotics, neuromechanical prosthetics, and/or rehabilitation robotics. Teaching experience and skills are an important aspect of this role. The successful candidate will develop an innovative teaching program in engineering design and in a broad cross-section of Mechanical Engineering topics. We will prioritize candidates with a demonstrated ability to teach effectively in an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering program.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field. Candidates must possess a record of publication in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Candidates must provide evidence of research and teaching experience and skills. Candidates with a demonstrated record of service and volunteerism broadly related to their research, teaching, and/or equity, diversity, and inclusivity will be considered. They are expected to be or become a licensed Professional Engineer through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA, www.apega.ca). Licensure must be obtained within five years from the date of hire.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers high quality education in one of Canada's largest mechanical engineering departments with world-class research. With a present complement of more than 60 faculty members, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of mechanical systems and controls, biomechanics, thermo-fluids, mechanics of materials, design and manufacturing, energy systems, and engineering management. Our graduate program attracts students who are dedicated to developing in their area of expertise, and presently has an enrollment of over 500 graduate students, including approximately 200 PhD students. The Department of Mechanical Engineering understands that our people are and will continue to be our greatest strength, and we celebrate creativity, diversity, perseverance, and a cooperative spirit. We recognize the importance of academic excellence in conjunction with a healthy work/life balance, interdisciplinary collaborative research, mentorship, and a collegial atmosphere.
