What You Will Achieve

The Senior Manager, PPT Chemistry/Engineering, Isolations/Milling/Micronizing will lead and manage a team of scientists. Key leadership accountabilities for this role will be milling/micronizing development, isolation development and support, fermentation and isolation costing, support PC1/Customer interactions, product/process technical stewardship, people leadership, technical problem solving, and assuring the best service is provided to site operational teams. The effective manager will oversee and guide the team in its responsibilities which will include: Perform production troubleshooting and support, process improvements for the API isolations, serving as primary technical experts for the manufacturing methods, performing scientific laboratory studies, and making recommendations to improve manufacturing reliability, cost, safety, compliance, and environmental performance. Working closely with the manufacturing plant, reviewing procedures, reviewing process performance data, and solving process problems. The team is also expected to provide technical knowledge, expertise, evaluation for other support functions. The leader will oversee exploratory research to produce new knowledge on current and developmental processes, and execute ideas and plans to increase productivity. Ensure research proposals are technically and economically sound for developing and evaluating improved isolations, equipment, and processes. They will report progress of research work and significance of the results. Recommends utilization of the results or changes in the scope of work or termination of projects. A successful candidate will have significant prior experience in particle size reduction, costing, scale up, customer interactions, equipment cleaning, and a track-record of collaborating & innovating with cross-functional teams. They will work with the leaders and staff from the other PPT Chemistry/Engineering teams to ensure projects, both PC1 and PGS internal, are fully supported and that timely support is given to address Plant challenges. The PPT Engineering, Isolations/Milling/Micronizing will report to the PPT Chemistry/Engineering leader.

How You Will Achieve It

The PPT Chemistry/Engineering, Isolations/Milling/Micronizing Manager may be assigned to lead and/or assist in the development of ad-hoc projects outside of their day-to-day responsibilities. However, core responsibilities include the following:
  • Lead cost analysis of fermentation and isolation processes
  • Interact with PC1 customers on fermentation. isolation, and particle size reduction
  • Assist process development on scale up and engineering related issues
  • Engineering Representative on safety issues and run large reviews.
  • Actively involved in daily operations.
  • Active advisor for the plant on new processing equipment and engineering technologies
  • People and technical leadership support to PPT Chemistry/Engineering Isolations/Milling/Micronizing team.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain and other site and global colleagues to meet the production schedules, ensure technical excellence, commercial supply, uphold quality standards, driving towards zero defects.
  • Attend/lead meetings with the plant on current issues/programs and keep upper management informed.
  • Ensures quality data is gathered to assist in making process recommendations to the plant
  • Recognize ongoing training/development needs to continually ensure the develop their staff and capabilities to ensure a high-level scientific expertise.
  • Identifies new tools/ technology/ processes that aid in the achievement of performance standards
  • Applies extensive technical and industry-specific and non-specific expertise and has full knowledge of the requirements of other related disciplines (technical, Regulatory, QO, Project Management, etcetera).
  • Able to adapt and respond positively to a variety of situations and people in order to meet changing work unit priorities
  • Decisions impact the achievement of objectives and the reputation of the department, and actions help to set the reputation of the department.

Qualifications

Must-Have
  • Applicant must have a Bachelors degree with at least 7 years of experience OR Masters degree with more than 6 years of experience, OR a PhD with 2+ years of experience
  • Experience leading teams of scientists with varying levels of experience and formal education (BS/MS and/or PhD).
  • Extensive experience evaluating new plant processes and technologies
  • Extensive experience with milling and micronizing
  • Extensive experience in project proposals and assessments
  • Experience with client interactions
  • Extensive experience working with Regulatory, Quality, Project Management, and Safety,
  • Candidate has demonstrated a diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.


Nice-to-Have
  • BS/BA in related field and 10+ years of e xperience in supporting scale-up and technology transfer to pilot or commercial scale facilities.
  • Significant experience in plant operations.


Physical/Mental Requirements

Position involves considerable standing in the laboratory, working with the hands and arms, and computer work.

Must be able to work with a variety of chemical and biological materials, and in chemical manufacturing facilities.

Non-Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environment Requirements

Must be able to work non-regular schedules as needed to accommodate the needs of laboratory and production operations.
