SUMMARY

The Wang Laboratory at MD Anderson Cancer Center is a computational biology research lab. We apply innovative bioinformatics approaches to deeply profile tumor cells and cells of the tumor microenvironment in order to identify tumor cell intrinsic and microenvironmental factors driving tumor phenotypic heterogeneity and evolution, and better understand the mechanisms underlying early tumorigenesis, disease

progression, and the development of therapy resistance.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior computational scientist who will help develop and maintain the analytical pipelines for processing and analysis of single cell and spatial multi-omics datasets. A primary responsibility of this position is to conduct bioinformatics analysis and develop novel analytical methods and tools as needed to address key biological questions.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Know your business

Participate in the design of computational experiments, data analysis and results interpretation.

Adopt and evaluate existing methods and tools, establish and maintain computational infrastructure and analytic pipelines in the lab.

Develop computational methods as needed for integrative analysis of single cell and spatial multiomics data.

Conduct computational analysis of bulk, single cell and spatial multiomics data, and perform high-dimensional, multimodal data integration.

-Technical/Functional Expertise: Demonstrate technical proficiency required to do the job; possess up-to-date knowledge in the profession; provide technical expertise to others.

-Apply basic technical/functional knowledge to complete work. Meet essential position requirements.

Know your business of your department/institute •Meets with collaborators to discuss projects and communicate results.

Work with teams of individuals to integrate data / metadata and assist postdocs and students in the lab in analyzing and resolving analysis issues as needed.

Assist with manuscript and grant preparation and present results during lab meetings, at department and institutional meetings and seminars, and at appropriate scientific conferences.

-Self-Adaptability: Work in situations involving uncertainty, shifting priorities, and rapid change; deal constructively with mistakes and setbacks; demonstrate flexibility.

Change Agent •Employ safe laboratory practices and help to maintain current and accurate records of research data.

Other duties as assigned and inclusive of: attend collaborator meetings and team working group meetings; prioritize and manage multiple projects in a timely and resource-effective manner; read literatures, gather relevant information systematically, and confers with supervisor regarding new procedures; organize data on laboratory servers; Assist with data/code submission, and distribute methods and codes to the scientific community, etc.

-Recognize simple cause and effect relationships. Diagnose problems by breaking them down into simple tasks or activities

Other duties as assigned

Education Required - Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, or related field.

Experience Required - Five years of experience in scientific software programming with a concentration in scientific computing. With Master's degree, three years experience required. With PhD, one year of experience required.
