Research in the Wen lab at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) focuses on (i) the molecular mechanisms that S. mutans and Lactobacillus spp. use to establish and persist in the plaque microbiota and interact with other major species in the community in oral health and disease and (ii) the development of novel strategies against dental caries and periodontal disease. It uses comprehensive approaches which include various modern molecular, biochemical and bioinformatics techniques and various in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models.

 

Qualifications: Candidates should be highly self-motivated and possess a strong background in microbial genetics and molecular biology. We are particularly interested in individuals who (1) have recently graduated with a PhD in related field with strong experience in current genetics, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry; (2) possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; and (3) have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of these postdoctoral associates will be to conduct independent research mostly by following established protocols. In addition, the postdoctoral associates will also be expected to provide mentorship to other junior personnel and students in the lab, assist the principal investigator in manuscript preparation, and present research findings at national and international scientific conferences.

Salary and benefits: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with NIH standards and experience. These full time positions are available immediately, and will remain open until filled.
