Assistant Professor in Immunology

The Center for Molecular Immunology and Infectious Disease ( of the Huck Institute of the Life Sciences ( and the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences ( in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a talented applicant for a new tenure-track Assistant Professor in Immunology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program and teach in the Immunology and Infectious Disease program.

Qualifications: Requirements include expertise and experience in immunology, including but not limited to, immune cell development, autoimmunity, mucosal immunology, immune responses to pathogens, nutritional immunology, immunotoxicology, cancer immunology, or immune networks in inflammation and resolution. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in immunology, biochemistry, cancer biology, life sciences, microbiology, or related disciplines, three years of relevant post-doctoral research experience and an outstanding record of accomplishment in immunological research. The position will entail a 75% research / 25% teaching assignment. This position features a competitive start-up package, outstanding research space in the newly constructed building and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation (metabolomics, proteomics, and genomics), a Gnotobiotic facility, and an ABSL-3 laboratory.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, independent research program supported by extramural funding to provide novel discoveries and mechanistic underpinnings relevant to important animal and/or human health concerns with a focus on immunology. Candidates with interdisciplinary research in one or more of the above-mentioned areas is highly desired. Other responsibilities include active participation in a vibrant community of multi-disciplinary researchers within CMIID, the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics, Center for Molecular Toxicology and Carcinogenesis, and Microbiome Center; training graduate students and post-doctoral fellows; teaching an undergraduate course in immunology or cell signaling; and contributing to a graduate level course in molecular immunology. Consistent with Penn State policies, the faculty member is expected to be a good citizen in the Department and serve on Departmental, College and University committees as appropriate, comply with all relevant policies, maintain high ethical standards, value, and facilitate diversity, equity, and inclusion, and participate in professional service and/or outreach as part of the academic appointment.
