Position Function:

The Papadimitriou lab at Cornell University is looking for a highly motivated individual to study brain development using cutting-edge technologies. The goal of this funded project is to uncover the chromatin regulatory functions of two genes implicated in risk for autism spectrum disorder. Approaches used will incorporate mouse models and human iPS derived cells and organoids. An applied goal of this study is to characterize the phenotypes of autism patient variants in chromatin regulator genes.

 

This position requires a qualified scientist with skills in molecular biology, neurobiology, and genomics. The scientist will be expected to generate genome-wide data on chromatin state and transcription factor binding, in isolated populations of cells or single-cell resolution.  This position also requires data analysis and drafting manuscripts that describe and discuss the results.

 

Anticipated Division of Time:

80% The postdoctoral associate will dedicate most of his/her/their time conducting laboratory research and data analysis; specifically with the goal of understanding the function of chromatin regulator proteins implicated in autism risk during brain development

 

10% Writing research papers and progress reports

 

5% Assist with writing new grant applications

 

5% Professional Development

 

Requirements:

Ph.D. in molecular biology, neuroscience, or genetics, and skills in genomics and computational biology is required.

 

Supervision:

Dr. Eirene Markenscoff-Papadimitriou

 

Supervision Exercised:

Dr. Markenscoff-Papadimitriou will be supervising the research. The postdoctoral associate will do some mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students assisting with the research project.
