Job Overview
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology is undergoing a major expansion and is seeking faculty candidates to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in the broad area of cancer basic research. This recruitment is part of a significant investment made under the stewardship of Dr. John C. Byrd, newly appointed Chair of Medicine, to serve our academic mission and to achieve NCI-designation.

Topics of interest are: 1. Mechanisms regulating cancer metabolism, redox balance and the response to cellular stress and; 2. Mechanisms underlying therapeutic resistance. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record, including funding appropriate to career stage (for instance a K award), and expertise with in vitro, ex vivo and/or in vivo experimental systems. Ideal disease focus is, but not limited to, lung, head and neck and gastrointestinal cancers.

The division has strong collaborative ties with the Department of Cancer Biology. The environment is collegial, collaborative and interdisciplinary. Our faculty currently has strengths in signal transduction, ferroptosis, lipidomics, mouse cancer modeling, autophagy, mitochondrial dynamics, cellular stress response pathways, novel cancer treatments, resistance to targeted therapy and tumor immunobiology. Disease interests span from solid tumors and leukemia. 

In addition, ample opportunities exist on campus for access to resources in immunobiology, laboratory medicine, transfusion medicine, cellular therapy and cancer biology at the University of Cincinnati Medical College, the Hoxworth Blood Center and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The division offers outstanding resources to support new faculty, including competitive salary and start-up support, junior faculty mentoring and guidance, well-supported core facilities and a strong collegial cancer research environment on campus.

Essential Functions
This full-time faculty research position will require the candidate to lead a cancer research team investigating the mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis. Essential functions include:

  • The planning of research programs, the design and interpretation of experiments, training and mentoring of trainees and seeking extramural funding with grants and research contracts. 
  • The research team may include research associates, undergraduate or graduate students and/or post-doctoral fellows.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD degree and sufficient post-doctoral experience to establish and/or maintain an independent research program funded by extramural grant support.  Additional Information
