Position Description:

Alpha-9 is seeking an EH&S Manager/Radiation Safety Officer to join our growing organization.  The ideal candidate will have qualifications to serve as our Radiation Safety Officer and experience with overall EH&S programs.  This person will ensure a safe working environment in our new Vancouver, BC based R&D facility. 

We are seeking a self-starter capable of working with a high degree of autonomy.  You will have the opportunity to contribute to the set-up of new laboratory facilities, and to be part of a dynamic R&D team focused on developing novel and impactful radiopharmaceuticals to detect and treat cancer.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on implementation and continuous improvement of EHS programs, including: Biosafety, Chemical Safety, Radiation Safety, Hazard Communication, Emergency Preparedness, and specific safety programs as needed
  • Perform basic health physics functions which include radioactivity wipe tests, administration of radiation dosimeter program, survey meter calibrations, and environmental monitoring
  • Develop and administer the radioactive material inventory program for the laboratory, including ordering, receipt, and surveying of incoming radioactive materials
  • Maintain records and documentation related to health and safety, including incident reports and accident investigations
  • Establish and maintain EHS permits and licenses in compliance with National and Provincial regulations
  • Maintain laboratory safety standards and ensure a safe working environment
  • Conduct training and inspections related to radiation safety, biosafety and chemical hygiene
  • Serve as primary contact with relevant authorities, including regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards
  • Coordinate all hazardous (radioactive, biological, and chemical) waste segregation, collection and disposal
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required

Requirements/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a related field, such as occupational health and safety, chemistry, or physics Certification as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) 5+ years laboratory experience with 2+ years in health and safety management, with a focus on radiation safety Experience with biosafety level 2 preferred Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and standards Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong analytical and problem solving skills
