Description

The newly established Life Molecules & Materials lab at New York University Abu Dhabi pursuing cutting edge research in the areas of self-organization and function of proteins seeks to recruit a Post -Doctoral Associate with expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and bio-molecular phase separation.

Current projects pursue: (1) Liquid-liquid phase separation and predicting phase diagrams of proteins and other biological macromolecules; (2) molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity and memory; and (3) engineering self-assembling protein-based materials for biotechnological and biomedical applications. Our research integrates biochemistry, physical chemistry, and soft matter physics, and employs state-of-the-art of tools including analytical ultracentrifugation, optical tweezers, confocal fluorescence microscopy, SAXS, NMR spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. Group members will benefit by working at the interface between physics, biology, and materials science, and will have access to generous travel allowances to attend international conferences and engage in scientific collaborations across the globe.

The successful candidate will work in one or more of the principal research directions. Qualification requirements: Candidates must have a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates with expertise in protein biochemistry, spectroscopy, molecular biology, and/or bioinformatics are strongly encouraged to apply. However, qualified candidates with other backgrounds will also be considered. Good oral and written communication skills, as well as attention to detail and good record keeping, are essential. The successful applicant will also participate in guiding students in measurements and analysis of their data as well as helping to draft proposals, reports, and research papers. Please note that this position is not located in the United States and the applicant must be willing to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Initial appointment will be for a two-year period, with possibility of a renewal pending satisfactory performance. The terms of employment are very competitive and include generous benefits such as housing allowance and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.

Interested applicants please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, a one-page statement of research interests, all in PDF format, and contact information for two to three references. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Aleksander Rebane at a.rebane@nyu.edu
