Great Bay University (GBU) is a newly established public university situated at the heart of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, China. Along with the vivid development of the area, GBU strives to be a world class research university staying at the forefront of knowledge and innovation.

We are now seeking outstanding candidates in all areas of sciences and physical sciences to join our team:


  • Mathematics: Including but not limited to computational and applied mathematics; data science, machine learning and statistics; modeling and prediction for biological, physical and quantum systems; probability and stochastic analysis; differential geometry and geometric analysis; algebraic and geometric topology; algebra, number theory and cryptography; dynamical systems; analysis and nonlinear/stochastic partial differential equations; mathematical physics.  
  • Physics: Including but not limited to theoretical physics; quantum physics and quantum information science; statistical physics and complex systems; condensed matter physics; biological and chemical physics; nuclear physics and particle physics; atomic, molecular, and optical physics; gravitation, cosmology and astrophysics.
  • Chemistry: Including but not limited to theoretical and computational chemistry; quantum chemistry; physical chemistry; biochemistry; organic and inorganic chemistry; analytical chemistry; structural chemistry; polymer chemistry and physics.

Physical Sciences: all areas of physical sciences, including advanced materials and related interdisciplinary fields, such as energy materials, functional and information materials, advanced structural materials, etc. Candidates whose research overlaps or will take maximal advantages of local facilities are encouraged to apply. These facilities include the Chinese Spallation Neutron Source, the Bay Area Center for Electron Microscopy, SLAB materials computation and micro-nano fabrication facilities. They also include the attosecond laser facility currently under construction and the planned synchrotron and free electron laser light sources.

Candidates of all ranks are invited to apply:

  • Chair Professor: You are a leading scholar with a global reputation in your research field. You have a proven record of excellence in research and/or education. You are at the forefront of research and have rich experience in setting strategic goals and leading a large team to conduct research programs.
  • Professor and Associate Professor: You are an established researcher with a proven track record of publication and/or other achievements. You have no less than 5, preferably 10 years of independent research and/or industrial experience. You like teaching and working with students. You are able to quickly set a long-term research goal and lead a team to conduct a research program.
  • Assistant Professor: You have finished your postdoctoral training and are establishing yourself as a promising researcher. You have a solid understanding of your research field, are innovative, and are a good team player. You are able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses independently.

Compensations and Benefits GBU offers internationally competitive salaries and generous start-up funds, which are commensurate with qualifications. Benefit packages include annual leaves, housing funds, as well as social, medical, and retirement insurances mandated under the laws and regulations. Accepted candidates are encouraged to apply for national, provincial, and municipal talent funds, most of which carry additional research grants. Those who qualify for Dongguan’s special talent program are eligible for an additional 1M to 10M RMB housing subsidies. Negotiations are possible for truly outstanding candidates on a case-by-case basis.

Minimum Requirements and Responsibilities. You must demonstrate, via high quality publications in top conferences or journals, solid research training in sciences, physical sciences or relevant areas, you should have independent forefront researcher agenda, and meet the university’s educational needs. Strong work ethics, ability to innovate, and team spirit are required.

Successful candidates are expected to carry out independent research and teaching, as well as contribute both to the university’s academic and educational development.
