The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time, 11-month, tenure-track teaching (80%) and extension (20%) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology education and youth STEM education.

The BMB department is located within the Noble Research Center and is composed of 20 diverse faculty with expertise in a variety of disciplines and 6 support staff. The BMB department has an undergraduate program (~150 majors) that prepares students for postgraduate professional and graduate programs. In addition, the department has exceptional M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Across the Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the OSU campus, there are several faculty and extension specialists working on STEM education and educational research programs.

Exemplary teaching and the ability to cover lower and upper division BMB courses is a primary responsibility of the incumbent. The successful candidate is also expected to champion course development to improve student learning outcomes and the use of modern pedagogical tools and contribute to online course delivery. In addition, this individual will serve as a liaison between the BMB department and the Oklahoma 4-H Youth Development unit. The candidate will work with both state extension specialists and county educators to develop and deliver youth development programs on BMB-related topics that include a standards-based curriculum and opportunities for youth to demonstrate mastery through hands-on engagement. Expectations of extension specialists include engagement, program leadership, scholarship, and program management.

The individual hired should also be prepared to work alone and in collaboration to apply for competitive grants aimed at improving science education programs and/or youth STEM program development. The candidate will also be expected to act as a faculty mentor and/or advisor for undergraduate majors and educational research students.

Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, life sciences education, or a related science discipline. Individuals with university or community college science teaching experience and/or involvement with youth STEM education are particularly encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral experience is not required.

This 11-month tenure track faculty position will be filled by August 10, 2023, or as soon thereafter as an acceptable applicant is available.  Salary and start-up will be commensurate with qualifications.
