The Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics and the Clinical Informatics Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) conduct a joint search for faculty who focus on innovation of computational approaches to address pressing problems in disease prevention, recognition, and management, and/or public health. We are particularly interested in researchers who will leverage the rich patient information collected in a leading academic medical center. Besides its own hospital and expansive clinics, UTSW partners with Dallas’ community public health system Parkland and the hospital network of Texas Health Resources. Together this network covers one of the largest and most diverse patient populations in the nation. UTSW also participates in the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics network, which provides access to hundreds of millions health data records worldwide.

Applicants may propose research programs with a significant clinical data management component, but successful candidates will distinguish themselves by incorporating disruptive computational approaches aligned with the mission of the Department of Bioinformatics to advance computational theory and algorithms for integrative analysis and modeling of high-dimensional and multi-modal data sets. The Department is particularly established in the development of theory and implementation of AI systems with applications from genomics to imaging. In partnership with the Clinical Informatics Center, the present search targets the expansion of this expertise to important areas of health informatics. Generous startup funds will be available to launch the research program. Successful candidates are expected to transition to robust grant-based funding over a time period of 5 – 7 years. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

Deadline for the submission of an application is May 1, 2023, and the initial screening of all submissions will be complete by end of May 2023. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. and should submit a 1-page letter of interest, a NIH-formatted biosketch including the Personal Statement and Contributions to Science sections followed by a complete list of publications, a 3-page research statement, and three letters of reference. All materials must be submitted electronically through the UTSW Career site at Assistant Professor/Associate Professor Tenure Track Faculty in Medical Informatics job at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX. Inquiries may be directed to Gaudenz Danuser (Gaudenz.Danuser@UTSouthwestern.edu), Chair, Lyda Hill Department of Bioinformatics and/or Christoph U. Lehmann (Christoph.Lehmann@UTSouthwestern.edu), Director Clinical Informatics Center.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
