Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Coordinator I to join the Breast Surgery research team and support Principal Investigators (PI) in conducting clinical trials in the breast cancer program. In a team-based setting, the candidate will be responsible for the coordination of daily activities on research studies, including the scheduling, screening, enrollment, randomizing, and monitoring of research participants. The position will work closely with PIs, research leadership, investigational pharmacies, sponsors, and regulatory agencies to ensure that research studies are performed in accordance with federal regulations, sponsors' guidelines, and departmental policies.

Job Duties

  • Interviews, screens and recruits patients for study; explains process and procedures to educate participants regarding the research study. 20%
  • Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database. May perform Venipuncture (blood draws), EKGs/ECG's and obtain vital signs on study participants. 10%
  • Collects, processes, ships, and maintains paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in the study protocol. 10%
  • Employees may be required to receive on-the-job training in phlebotomy and EKGs/ECGs prior to performing on study participants. 10%
  • Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies. 10% Schedules research participants for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and other studies specific to the research protocol. 10%
  • Retrieves and submits test results to the appropriate party. 10%
  • Corresponds with patients throughout the study. 10%
  • Orders supplies and equipment. 5%


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Oncology trial experience, including investigational drugs and devices.
  • Phlebotomy experience and certification.
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred.
