Scientific Advisor – Steptoe & Johnson, LLP

Steptoe & Johnson, LLP, seeks a scientific advisor with a strong background in the life sciences to join the Intellectual Property ("IP") group in one of our five US offices (New York; Washington, DC; Chicago; Los Angeles; or San Francisco). This role will work with our team of attorneys and patent agents to prepare and prosecute patent applications, perform patent landscape and freedom-to-operate analyses, and conduct IP due diligence. Ideal candidates will have an advanced degree, preferably a PhD, in a life science, e.g., biology, chemistry, biochemistry, immunology, or pharmacology. Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is a plus but not required for candidates.

Candidates must have strong academic credentials and an interest in using their scientific knowledge and skills in a law firm setting. This role requires attention to detail and outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and, most importantly, writing skills. Expected salary for the patent agent role is $135,000 - $200,000, depending on experience.
