Position Summary

The Senior Research Specialist is a nurse who will contribute to the conduct of a national multicenter clinical trial for older adults undergoing lung cancer surgery and their family caregivers. Lead the delivery of intervention components that provide educational/coaching support for older adults and their family caregivers after surgery. Contribute to improving patient outcomes in a multidisciplinary clinical research team. Performs a variety of research activities including intervention delivery, documentation, participant consenting, monitoring participant study progress.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Identifies and accrues patients to Clinical Research Studies under the direction of its Principal Investigator or the Division of Population Sciences' Scientist/Professor.
  • Implements interventions for experimental studies.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant proposals, research reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Develops, establishes schedules, and monitors status of special projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Participates in database design for projects as assigned.
  • Identifies and communicates important protocol and management issues or problem areas to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates understanding of all professional and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to provide sound decision-making.
  • Communicates effectively with all customers and colleagues to meet organizational goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge, skills, and competencies through involvement in professional continuing education activities.
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.


Basic education, experience, and skills required for consideration:

Bachelor's Degree required

Three years of clinical experience in hospitals/healthcare agencies, research experience not required but preferred

Required Certification/Licensure:

Current Licensed California Registered Nurse

BLS Certification
