Position Summary

City of Hope is recruiting a statistician for a non-tenure track faculty appointment to support clinical trials and pre-clinical/translational research in oncology. This will be an appointment in Biostatistics in the Research Professor series, at a rank consistent with qualifications and experience. The candidate selected for this position will report to the Director of Biostatistics and will have the opportunity to work with both physician-scientists and basic science researchers.

Key Responsibilities include:

Generally, the successful applicant will contribute to the Departments research agenda through independent and collaborative research resulting in presentations and publications.

The incumbent may also perform some or all of the following:
  • Contributing to the science through collaborative and independent research including co-authoring papers and protocols;
  • Serving as statistician on preclinical/clinical studies, trial protocols;
  • Establishing a publication and funding track record;
  • Developing, evaluating andmaking publicly available computer code following principles of reproducible research;
  • Development of novel statistical methodologies;
  • Delivering talks on the results of the research;
  • Maintaining current knowledge of and contributing to advancements in the field through participation in professional organizations, scientific conferences, reading industry journals, and publication of manuscripts;
  • Performing other tasks as required.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Doctorate in applied biostatistics/statistics or similar field and have a demonstrable record of accomplishments.
  • Experience (minimum of 1-3 years) in designing and/or analyzing clinical trials.
  • Excellent computing skills and a publication record documenting both self-directed and collaborative research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple collaborations
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and research team members
  • Ability to build, foster, and maintain positive and productive professional relationships
  • Ability to professionally manage cross discipline and cross institute collaborations, acting as an engaged and proactive subject matter expert

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Experience in Hematology or Oncology.
  • Some knowledge of small animal study designs.
  • Ability to write efficient programs in R and/or SAS

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate's experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
