Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Biophysics

The Department of Biophysics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (EPR Focus). Our lab in the Department of Biophysics at MCW performs technology research and development for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR).

We are seeking a motivated individual to design and implement the next generation pulse and continuous-wave spectrometers for EPR to interface with state-of-the-art resonant probes. This project is part of a broader effort to significantly increase the sensitivity of EPR for protein single crystal and microfluidic applications and lead the field in biomedical research technology. The position will remain open until filled.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative laboratory focused on the structure-function duality of medically relevant enzymes, with access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and expertise in EPR spectroscopy. The applicant will be part of an interdisciplinary team. A successful individual will mentor graduate students in research projects. Strong collaborative skills are required.

Qualifications. Ideal candidates will have experience expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance Microwave components and system design Hardware/software interfacing Python, MATLAB, LabView, C/C++ Keysight ADS Excellent writing skills, as evidenced by first author publications

Department of Biophysics. The Department of Biophysics at MCW has a rich history of innovation, unique expertise, and successful collaborations, with strong research programs in structural biology and biomedical imaging including EPR (electronic paramagnetic resonance), NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

Research themes focus on protein structure and functional mechanisms, biological membrane processes, redox biology, and technology development in the areas of microwave applications, protein structure calculations, and computational image analysis for translation to clinical practice. State-of-the-art research resources geared toward these programs are available in the Department and the wider MCW campus. They include laboratories for EPR, NMR, MRI, X-ray crystallography, cryo electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, biomolecular analysis, and high-performance computing. Educational activities include teaching at the graduate and medical levels and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral scientists.
