Global Institute of Future Technology (GIFT hereafter) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University is one of the first 12 Institutes of Future Technology established by the Ministry of Education of China. Founded on August 19, 2021, GIFT is committed to building an internationally influential faculty, creating a cutting-edge interdisciplinary teaching and research platform, and cultivating innovative scientific and technological leaders who can address global challenges and contribute to future development.

GIFT manages endowment funds from a variety of sources, including a recent donation of more than 200 million US dollars. GIFT's new building will be completed within two years, adding 60,000 square meters to the current 25,000 square meters. With strong government and university support, we will rapidly expand our faculty, including high-level hiring (e.g. NAE/NAS members and Fellows of multiple professional societies). GIFT invites applications for tenure-track or tenured professorial and research scientist positions, mainly at Associate and Full levels, related to Health Science and Technology. Currently, five research centers have been established.

Health-oriented Metaverse and Human Digital Twin Research Center

The center intends to develop health-oriented metaverse and human digital twin systems through informatics methods to assist people with self-health management, and to create integrated digital medical solutions for the future. The center is developing four major research directions: 1) health digital twin and life-cycle health monitoring; 2) human digital twin and simulation at the macro scale; 3) digital twin at micro, molecular and genetic scales; and 4) medical metaverse infrastructure.

Multi-modality Human Characterization and Health Detection Center

The center aims to realize the comprehensive characterization of human health information through light, sound, electricity, magnetism and other signals, providing sophisticated detection methods for cross- disciplinary problems in the health area. The center has three major research directions: 1) multimode imaging technologies, 2) physiological detection technologies, and 3) laboratory-on-a-chip technologies.

Brain Health Research Center

This center aims to develop new methods of diagnosis and treatment for neurological disorders and to develop a better understanding of consciousness, cognition, and brain intelligence. The four research directions include: 1) precision diagnosis and treatment for depression, addiction and other neurological disorders, 2) development of diagnosis methods, drugs, and gene therapy for autism, 3) novel neurointerventional technologies for brain function remodeling, and 4) novel imaging and electronics technologies for brain research.

Life-time Health Management Center

This center focuses on data science and data analysis related to life-time health management and corresponding applications. Current research directions include: 1) data-driven health management paradigm and methods; 2) privacy-preserving and distributed data analysis. We are looking for candidates working at the intersection of Digital health, health data analytics, health information systems, health mobile computing, and behavioral data science.

Aging and Cancer Research Center

China’s population has been aging rapidly and it is critically important to focus on aging related researches in molecular biology and personalized treatment in older adults. Our mission is to advance the understanding of aging associated diseases to accelerate the development of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survival based on person’s age. Key areas of research interest include 1) Aging research; 2) the bidirectional relationship between aging and cancer.

GIFT operates a tenure system for faculty evaluation and promotion. A comprehensive start-up package will be provided, including adequate office and laboratory space, as well as moving expenses.
