Job Details

The primary purpose of the Senior Research Scientist position is to lead projects and teams, to provide research management, and to apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, carry out and evaluate specific research projects conducted Health Disparities Research. Ensures successful project planning, implementation, and closure. Provides input to cancer research efforts throughout the institution. Provide research management that includes research design, proposal writing, data collection, data analysis, research results publication, and manuscript production for current work with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Responsible for specific activities related to cancer prevention and control and health equity projects and for completion of other tasks and activities as assigned by principal investigator.

Leads projects and teams.
  • Selects and manages laboratory personnel.
  • Leads project teams, reviews and evaluates research activity, determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained and timelines.
  • Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments. Designs, develops or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates research projects. Develops and implements research protocols and procedures.
  • Responsible for obtaining regulatory approval and meets regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for laboratory equipment and implementing safety procedures.
  • Evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems. Performs or oversees data management and analysis procedures.
  • Drafts and edits grant applications, progress reports and prepare for grant applications.
  • Monitors and assists with management of budgets associated with assigned research projects and protocols.
  • Presents findings of research projects to professional groups and prepares scientific documents for publication.
  • Establishes, cultivates and maintains working relationships and contacts with internal and community constituents, healthcare facilities and other entities to develop and facilitate collaborative partnerships.
  • Lead the development and facilitation of collaborative partnerships. Interfaces with and supports community advisory group/s and other collaborators.
  • Directs efforts for engaging community members, including coalition building, facilitating advisory groups, recruiting research participants, and developing partnerships for projects.
  • Disseminates results through community and academic venues.


EDUCATION:
Required: Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: PhD in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Six years experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD or Medical degree, three years experience in experimental or scientific work.
