Summary

We are seeking a talented individual to join the Chao Laboratory for neurogenetics and neuropsychology research at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, which is affiliated with Texas Children's Hospital, to discover the genetic causes of childhood neurological disorders (epilepsy, autism, ADHD, and cognitive impairments), elucidate the neurocognitive and psychological impact, and discover therapeutic interventions for rare and common neurologic disorders. The primary role of the Research Coordinator I is to assist in all aspects of neurogenetics and neuropsychology human subjects research, including, but not limited to screen and enroll participants, perform data entry, maintain study and regulatory documents, review medical records and test reports, coordinate biospecimen acquisition, and ensure the organization and safety of study participants. The coordinator should have excellent attention to detail, communication, professional, and interpersonal skills, proficiency with Excel, and be adaptable to study needs. The coordinator will work with people from many different backgrounds, including children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families. There will be opportunities for career development and growth.

Job Duties

  • Screens medical records and diagnostic tests to determine study eligibility
  • Recruits and interviews study participants for neurogenetics research at the NRI, including but not limited to genome sequencing, neuropsychology assessments, MRI neuroimaging, and data collection from medical records
  • Schedules research visits and biospecimen acquisitions
  • Maintains records, data files, and regulatory documents for research study
  • Attends meetings and phone conferences regarding the study with researchers, clinicians, and sponsors
  • Collects participant information, processes documents, and enters data into database
  • Explains study process and procedures by phone or email to educate study participants, family members, and other researchers
  • Retrieves and submits test results to appropriate party
  • Generates data reports to determine feasibility for upcoming studies
  • Maintains and organizes inventory of study supplies and equipment


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Masters degree in a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in a research or clinical setting.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheets and database data entry.
