The Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is seeking translational researchers to serve in the Division of Surgical Sciences. The overall mission of the Division of Surgical Sciences is to support discoveries in fundamental, translational, and clinical research that enhance the Department’s core mission to developing more effective approaches for promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease.

The successful candidate for this position may be considered for appointment at Harvard Medical School at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience, training, and achievement in the field.

The candidate should have a national reputation and track record of successful clinical, translational, and/or basic laboratory research. They will be expected to have research expertise and accomplishments in one or more of the major thematic clinical and research areas of the Department, which include cancer, nutrition, innate and adaptive immunity and immune mechanisms, inflammation, regenerative medicine, transplantation, and vascular biology. The individual will be expected to compete successfully for independent research funding and/or collaborate with other investigators in the Division to obtain research funding. The candidate should have a history of supporting and mentoring the research efforts of students, residents, fellows, and faculty. The candidate will play an important role in supervising residents and fellows engaged in clinical and/or basic bench research projects.
