Principal Scientist, mRNA Vaccine Development, Molecular Biology and RNA
ROLE SUMMARY
We are looking for a Principal Scientist whose work will focus on molecular biology, RNA biochemistry and project leadership for the Upstream Development Group within Early Bioprocess Development at VRD in Pearl River, NY. The incumbent will work with the upstream mRNA drug substance team to support various efforts on molecular biology and RNA biochemistry, lead manufacture campaigns and coordinate internal and external development and innovation efforts. The incumbent would be joining a team of scientists well-versed in mRNA production and characterization, and would be expect to both support and innovate efforts on multiple fronts both within and outside the department.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The three main responsibilities for this role are to lead mRNA production campaigns, coordinate mRNA process development efforts and provide molecular biology support for the team. The incumbent should have a broad and strong understanding of all aspects of molecular biology, including plasmid design, biochemical assays (especially for RNA) and nucleic acid characterization. As well as working with the mRNA team, the incumbent will be working closely with several other teams within and outside of VRD, as well as leading innovation efforts on their own. A demonstrated history of leadership, especially in a team context, is highly desired. The incumbent will have both bench science and supervisory/leadership responsibilities. Data documentation will be performed in a timely and compliant manner, and data presentation will occur within the group, to project teams and at the departmental level.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline and >2 years experience
Proven molecular biology and RNA biochemistry skills
Demonstrated history of leading projects, innovation, and supervision of team members
Experienced in the cloning plasmid DNA
Ability to design, organize and execute complex experiments
Ability to independently plan experimental workflows for multiple experiments
Provides guidance to direct reports and collaborates in a team environment
Compiles, organizes and evaluates data
Has experience in preparing making comprehensive presentations
