Houston Methodist Academic Institute (HMAI), associated with the highly ranked Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH), is committed to advancing biomedical research through innovations and discoveries that improve public health. HMAI promotes the transfer of scientific and technologic innovation from laboratory bench to the clinic through multidisciplinary approaches to new medical diagnostics and treatments. HMAI provides researchers with state-of-the-art facilities and robust, responsive administrative support that foster the seamless transfer of discovery and invention to improved patient care. The nearly 600 HMAI faculty and staff members work with more than 1,500 credentialed HMH investigators and a global network of physicians and scientists at Weill Cornell Medical College, Rice University, Texas A&M University, and other leading institutions in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), renowned for its concentration of talented researchers and cutting-edge technologies.

The Center for Bioenergetics at HMAI seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor–level Scientist to lead new research programs focused on multiple aspects of mitochondrial energetics in health and disease. The new Scientist will direct independent projects that take advantage of the many resources unique to HMAI and the TMC while complementing and strengthening existing programs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research over a range of clinical, translational, and basic science programs at HMAI. The position requires a strong commitment to scholarly work in laboratory-based research, a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, independent research funding, and scholarly achievements commensurate with career stage.
