ROLE SUMMARY

As the Global Medical Director, COVID-19 Antivirals the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Global Medical Affairs Lead to ensure flawless execution of the Covid-19 antivirals global strategic medical activities with a focus on implementation and tactics. This will include supporting the development and execution of the medical and lifecycle plans, launch planning for Paxlovid, congress planning, and opinion leader relations. The COVID vaccine and antivirals franchise is expanding rapidly. This position will be on the cutting edge for defining applications of new technologies against COVID-19 at Pfizer moving forward.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Global Medical Director , COVID-19 Antivirals, the incumbent will be responsible for executing global medical affairs activities and coordinating with regional and cross-functional teams to ensure a "One Pfizer" approach. This will entail the following:
  • Provide global support (training, partnership, etc) to regions to ensure flawless execution of the Medical and Lifecycle Plans and deliverables for COVID antivirals.
  • Serves as a regional and global advocate for the antivirals medical organization and champions MDSCA resources, needs, and priorities for the appropriate use of antivirals aligned with mRNA vaccines.
  • Will support successful launch and recommendations for COVID antivirals (Paxlovid) globally and regionally.
  • Support MDSCA global strategy for high risk patients and especial population for COVID antivirals including strategies for licensure and introduction of antivirals with a global perspective
  • Will support the Global Lead for regional Antivirals Technical Committees and local MoHs with respect to COVID therapies
  • Partners with Regional Commercial leads to ensure MDSCA alignment on key strategies, deliverables, and communication for Paxlovid in the designated region and globally
  • Serves as the MDSCA project champion, effectively negotiating with & influencing key internal & external stakeholders
  • Support Asset and MSC teams with aggregated regional data on studies aligned with a clear global strategy (Pfizer-sponsored and collaborative research)
  • Supporting and partner with the Global Medical lead and regional medical counterpart to generate a solid network with the global medical grants / IIR department for global view of COVID-19 studies and grant requests and facilitating implementation
  • Contributes to the integration of scientific information (epidemiology, disease burden, public health value, etc.) in the COVID-19 antivirals asset.
  • Support the execution of epidemiology studies - both field studies involving primary data collection and secondary analyses of real-world data or registries.
  • Develop innovative approaches for communication modalities to address global epidemiological challenges related to COVID-19 as they apply to COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics.
  • Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with external partners and institutions that can collaborate with high priority global studies.
  • Work with internal and external experts in statistics to analyze and interpret data from key vaccines and therapeutic epidemiology studies.
  • Critiques internally and externally written manuscripts/published literature.
  • Partners with digital colleagues to ensure omnichannel approaches are used to develop cutting-edge medical educational tools


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • MD with additional research training in infectious disease, public health, epidemiology, or close-related field (board certified in infectious diseases preferred) and 3+ years of experience
  • Antivirals and disease area expertise (training or experience) to be credible both internally and externally at an international level.
  • Experience in infectious disease medical affairs in industry.
  • At least 3 years of experience in antivirals-related clinical programs and medical/scientific activities including research, clinical and epidemiological programs
  • Expertise in antivirals and/or immunization programs with an established international KOL network.
  • Ability to discuss scientific aspects of vaccine development, also comfortable in discussing commercial and regulatory issues.
  • Able to review, evaluate, interpret, and present complex data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including scientific writing skills; includes strong inter-personal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and articulate medical affairs strategies.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successfully interacted with regulatory agencies regarding vaccines indication and/or labeling issues.
  • Significant cross-functional leadership/management experience.
  • Track-record in publications about the development, evaluation and/or other aspects of vaccines and antivirals in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Knowledgeable of the commercial and environmental issues that drive development projects.
  • Able to set priorities and manage complex projects to deliver milestones according to set budgets.
  • Understand the emerging safety and efficacy profile of vaccine candidates including providing a perspective with comparator therapeutic options.
  • Proven ability to influence and succeed through others and to form excellent relationships with key cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, and proven track record of delivering high quality within timelines.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $207,200.00 to $345,500.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.

Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
