Division/Department Information

The Department of Biological Sciences at the Queens campus of St. John's University located in New York City is seeking applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Biology. Preference will be given to those in fields of neurobiology and/or physiology (any organism). However, we strongly encourage applications from other biological fields as well. The Department is eager to attract candidates that represent the rich diversity of the students and communities we are proud to serve in the New York Metropolitan area. We are seeking a highly collaborative colleague who can engage with faculty and students from wide biological disciplines and backgrounds. We have an active faculty with most having NIH or NSF funded research programs. Additionally, many of our faculty maintain collaborations with colleagues at surrounding institutions, such as Columbia University, New York University, and the New York Botanical Garden. The Department of Biological Sciences, with more than 1000 undergraduate B.S. students, is the largest department on campus. We also maintain robust M.S. and Ph.D. programs. More information about the department can be found here: https://www.stjohns.edu/resources/places/biological-sciences

Responsibilities

We anticipate this position to begin in Fall 2023. We aim to support our successful candidate in establishing an extramurally funded research program. They will also be expected to mentor and teach undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students in their research area. Finally, we strongly encourage them to become engaged with efforts on campus to expand diversity, equity and inclusion in our curriculum, student support, and professional development.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have a PhD or other graduate degree in a biological field. Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral research experience and a strong record of research accomplishments.

Application Process

Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, research statement, diversity & inclusion statement, teaching philosophy, and complete contact information for three professional references online.
