Summary

Entry level position into the complex field of Research Administration with the central Sponsored Programs office. The Specialist will receive training and coaching from experienced senior team members and gradually learn to work independently and become a full Associate. Contribute to pre-award or programmatic activities throughout the grant life cycle from application to funding to annual reports to close-out.

Job Duties

  • Review and approve grant applications, certifying summary data in the College's electronic Biomedical Research and Assurance Information Network (BRAIN) and ensure compliance with all policies and guidelines.
  • Engage with the BCM researchers and departmental administrators as the lead communications monitor
  • Submit and monitor applications through the grant life cycle to include interpreting requirements and making recommendations to the research community
  • Follow checklists to fund awards and ensure that each award is in compliance with sponsor guidelines, the budget complies with college and sponsor requirements and all compliance requirements are approved
  • Track and communicate NIH guidelines regarding progress report and close out documents
  • Attend weekly office meetings and monthly workshops
  • Help monitor office email and ensure communications are responded to in a timely manner
  • Maintain special tracking systems and follow detailed checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. No experience required with Bachelor's degree or Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC).
  • Position requires good reading and writing skills, ability to analyze and problem solve, and high degree of flexibility in being able to respond to fast paced environment.
