OPEN RANK FACULTY POSITION IN COMPUTATIONAL BIOPHYSICS

Position. The Department of Biophysics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invites applications for a faculty appointment in the area of computational biophysics. Appointments at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor rank will be considered. The position will remain open until filled.

The successful candidate will complement existing strengths of the Department in biophysical and clinical research, bridging the scales of biological organization from molecules to higher organisms. Applicants interested in the following areas are encouraged to apply: biophysical modeling of biomolecules and their collective behavior, structural and molecular biophysics, understanding biological mechanisms across biological scales from multi-component assemblies to the molecular level, and structure-based drug discovery.

Qualifications. Candidates must have a PhD or MD degree and an outstanding record of research accomplishments. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain a strong, independent, and externally funded research program, as well as interdisciplinary research interactions with Basic Science and Clinical Departments, Research Centers, and Institutes across MCW.

Department of Biophysics. The Department of Biophysics at MCW has a rich history of innovation, unique expertise, and successful collaborations, with strong research programs in structural biology and biomedical imaging including EPR (electronic paramagnetic resonance), NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Research themes focus on protein structure and functional mechanisms, biological membrane processes, redox biology, and technology development in the areas of microwave applications, protein structure calculations, and computational image analysis for translation to clinical practice. State-of- the-art research resources geared toward these programs are available in the Department and the wider MCW campus. They include laboratories for EPR, NMR, MRI, X-ray crystallography, cryo electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, biomolecular analysis, and high-performance computing. Educational activities include teaching at the graduate and medical levels and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral scientists.
