Senior Research Assistant opportunity in Pediatrics Research

The Senior Research Assistant will provide supervision, special training to technical personnel and/or highly technical work in medical and related research projects to achieve a positive impact on laboratory research techniques, production and procedures.

Ideal candidate must have a Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the natural sciences or related field, three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work, and experience in high volume animal handling.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Exercises considerable imagination, initiative and inventiveness in planning and executing the details of experiments and in evaluating and interpreting the results.
  • Responsible for major participation in the development and revision of techniques, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment.
  • Collaborates or assists with supervisor and senior research staff with preparation of reports and grant requests.
  • Supervises technicians in their work and assists them as assigned or delegated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Research Activities:
  • Will generate genetically engineered mouse models, breed animals, genotype progeny and monitor mice for tumor formation
  • Will complete a wide array of experimental procedures including PCR, immunohistochemistry, chromatin immunoprecipitation, Western blotting and bioluminescence assays

Mentorship and Training:
  • Verbally instructs, and visually demonstrates to new personnel and students the proper performance of all Standard Operating Procedures.

Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Maintains an up-to-data, organized, accurate, and legible lab notebook that records all experiments and tests in detail.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred Education: Master's degree with major course work in one of the basic sciences or Medical Degree.

Required Experience: Three years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
