Postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Hua Yan's laboratory for highly motivated creative candidates who are interested in cellular and molecular basis of social behavioral neuroscience.
Dr. Yan has broad interest in physiological, neural, behavioral plasticity in eusocial insects. He and his colleagues developed the genetic tools in ants and discovered neural plasticity in the development of insect olfactory system: http://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28802043/
Details of Dr. Yan's laboratory, ongoing research projects, and recent publications can be found at: http://yanlab.biology.ufl.edu.
Research projects may involve but not limited to (1) developmental plasticity of olfactory neurons that express expanded number of odorant receptors; (2) genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying the expression profiles of odorant receptors; (3) chemosensory-mediated social communication and behavior.
Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Genetics and/or Genomics. Candidates with prior research experience in genetic model systems, such as fruit flies, nematodes or vertebrates are highly encouraged to apply.
Interested applicants should directly send the following documents in an application packet, preferably as a single PDF file, by email to Dr. Hua Yan (email@example.com):
1) Cover letter indicating current and future research interests
2) Expected starting date
3) Curriculum vitae
4) Brief summary of previous research experience (1-2 pages)
5) Names and contact information of 3 references.
The University of Florida is located in Gainesville, a small, affordable, metro area in North Central Florida, with a rich cultural scene, high-quality health care system, and year-long outdoor recreation activities.
We are also recruiting a junior specialist (lab technician/manager). Successful candidates should have a bachelor or higher degree in Entomology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology, or a related field. The candidates must be authorized to work in the US. The selected junior specialist will be responsible for lab organization, and will also assist postdoc and/or graduate student and participate in laboratory experimental studies. Previous lab experience with animal maintenance and bench work will be prioritized. Applicants should submit a cover letter, an updated curriculum vitae, and names and contact information of 2 references to email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
