The Hiebert lab at Vanderbilt University is seeking independent and highly motivated postdoctoral research associates to study the role of oncogenic transcriptional programs and the role of chromatin-modifying enzymes in cancer development. We intersect the use of cutting-edge genomic approaches (e.g. PRO-seq, CUT&RUN, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq), proteomics, and engineered mouse models to define the mechanism of action for oncogenic transcription factors that drive the development of hematopoietic malignancies. Specifically, we are engineering alleles of transcriptional regulatory factors to contain degron tags to rapidly degrade these factors to define their mechanism of action. Examples of this approach can be found in Stengel et al., Molecular Cell, 2021; DOI: 10.1016/j.molcel.2020.12.005; Zhang et al., Molecular Cell 2022, and Bomber et al., Molecular Cell, in press (Feb. 16, 2023 issue).

Successful candidates will be responsible for study design, execution and data analysis. Candidates should have experience effectively communicating data and conclusions in both written and oral form, and will be expected to contribute to manuscript preparation and present their findings at national meetings.

  • PhD or MD/PhD in a relevant field with a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Ability to problem-solve and think critically;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Knowledge of cancer genetics, hematopoiesis, gene regulation, epigenetics, and/or computational biology is preferred, but not required;
  • Experience in cell culture, transcriptional analyses, and functional genomics is preferred but not required.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. We especially encourage applications from those groups under-represented in science.
