Position description: Two positions for Postdoctoral Scholars are available in the group of Dr. Lalit Deshmukh at University of California, San Diego (UCSD). The successful candidates will conduct independent research to study protein folding and misfolding using multidisciplinary approaches. The available projects focus on exploring phase separation and fibrillization properties of proline-rich domains of human proteins and quantitative investigation of human insulin-degrading enzyme and its role in Alzheimer's disease (for more details about the group and its research focus, visit https://deshmukhgroup.ucsd.edu). Motivated candidates with a strong background in modern biophysical and structural biology techniques, as well as protein expression and purification, are highly desirable.

Successful candidates will join a thriving collaborative research environment. The Deshmukh group was just awarded an NIH R35 (MIRA) grant from 2022–2027 and has dedicated access to state-of-the-art research facilities across the UCSD campus (e.g., NMR spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy, quantitative mass spectrometry, cryo-EM, etc.). Members of the Deshmukh group also have many opportunities to present their work at national and international conferences and to carry out multidisciplinary collaborative research.

Qualifications: Interested candidates must have a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, or related fields prior to the start of their appointment. No more than two years of previous postdoctoral research experience (i.e., within two years of doctoral degree conferment). Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

To apply: Please email ldeshmukh@ucsd.edu to apply and include: 1) a brief cover letter (less than one page) summarizing previous research experiences and potential project interests; 2) a CV with a complete publication list; and 3) contact information for three referees.
