The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine seeks a leader in neurodegenerative disease.  We are interested in candidates focused on understanding basic pathogenic mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease and/or translational research that could impact the dismal prognosis for diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and ALS.

We expect that a recruit will have a record of exceptional accomplishment and funding and will currently hold a faculty appointment at an Assistant Professor to Professor rank.  Recruits could become a member of one or more of several departments participating in this recruitment.  Participation in clinical activities related to neurodegeneration may be considered an advantage. Preferred areas of research may complement existing strengths at our institution, including systems neuroscience, disorders of the nervous system, central energy metabolism and control, molecular physiology, and cell signaling.

There are enormous opportunities for research in neurodegeneration at the university.  We have a highly collaborative and vibrant scientific community.  Recruits will have outstanding research space with available state-of-the art shared instrumentation.  We have a large population of involved and committed patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases.  We have an established brain bank with cutting-edge methods.  Faculty members will participate in NIH and interdisciplinary training programs including Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine, Genetics, Medical Scientist Training Program, Clinical Neuroscientist Training Program, and the Physician Scientists Training Program.  We have pioneering departments of Neurology, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery, Psychology, and Pharmacology, each with long histories of transformational discoveries.  We are a National Center of Excellence in Parkinson's Disease and in Huntington's Disease.  Our exciting new Iowa Neuroscience Institute has 120+ faculty.  This tenure-track position includes a 12-month salary, benefits, and a competitive start-up package.
