Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Master Plan of Guangzhou Nansha on Deepening Comprehensive Cooperation Between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao with Global Perspective”. With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogy, aiming at serve as a role model of mainland Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university, endeavouring to nurture future-oriented, high-level, and innovative talents.

In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. This is a groundbreaking move in the higher education community across the globe.

The Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering Thrust (https://hkust-gz.edu.cn/academics/four-hubs/systems-hub/bioscience-and-biomedical-engineering) at HKUST(GZ) now invites applications for multiple tenure-track and tenured faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor). Although applications from outstanding individuals in any area of Bioscience and Bioengineering will be considered, the Thrust especially encourages applications in Stem Cell Biology, Cell and Tissue Engineering, Neuroscience, Synthetic Biology, Biomaterial Science, and Computational Biology. The Thrust is expected to grow substantially in the next few years in terms of academic staff, programs, resources, and facilities.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in relevant fields. The appointees are expected to establish an independent and internationally competitive research program.  Teaching responsibilities include postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous start-up funding, ample laboratory space, and excellent research equipment and support will be provided.

All posts are tenure-track Chinese Mainland appointments to be offered by the HKUST(GZ) in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.  Appointment at Professor rank and some at Associate Professor rank will be made on substantive basis while initial appointment to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Application Procedure

Please submit application materials, including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research proposal (maximum 3 pages), teaching statement (maximum 1 page), and contact information of three referees, via the HKUST/HKUST(GZ) Recruitment System (https://facrecruit.hkust.edu.hk/). Alternatively, application materials and inquiries can be sent through email (bsbet@ust.hk) to the Chair of the Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering Search Committee.  Please be advised that only shortlisted candidates will be notified of the result of the application.
