Senior Research Coordinator - Neurogenetics

Summary

The Senior Research Coordinator will work collaboratively with the project team members at the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI) and Cain Foundation Laboratories affiliated with Texas Children's Hospital to discover the genetic causes of childhood neurological disorders (epilepsy, autism, ADHD, and cognitive impairments), elucidate the neurocognitive impact, and discover therapeutic interventions for rare and common neurologic disorders. The Senior Coordinator's key responsibilities include operational development, management, and execution of neurogenetics research program for neuropsychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and neurodegenerative disorders. The goal of this NRI neurogenetics research program is to enhance and accelerate new disease gene discovery for childhood and adult neurologic disorders, advance diagnosis, prognosis, and identify improved therapeutic interventions for neurologic disorders including epilepsy, autism, movement disorders, and cognitive impairments. This comprehensive program includes genome sequencing for children and adults with undiagnosed neurodevelopmental and epilepsy conditions; profiling genetic, neuropsychological, brain structure, and health outcomes across the lifespan; large-scale bioinformatics with data scientists at the NRI, TCH, and BCM; and translating research findings into pre-clinical and clinical trials. We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, and goal-oriented individual with excellent attention to detail and communication skills, a willingness to learn and adaptable to change.

Job Duties

• Prepares and develops IRB protocol documents and consent forms.
• Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies.
• Interprets regulatory rules or rule changes and ensures they are communicated through policies and procedures.
• Corresponds with participants, researchers, referring clinicians, or sponsors throughout study.
• Interviews, screens, and recruits patients for study; explains process and procedures to educate participant regarding the research study.
• Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database.
• Conducts preliminary research such as; family and patient medical histories, coordination of genetic testing, and review of patient referrals.
• Collects, processes, ships, and maintains paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocol.
• Schedules research participant for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, genetic testing, psychology assessments, brain imaging, and other studies specific for the research protocol.
• Retrieves and submits test results to appropriate party.
• Manages project data, develops and maintains database
• Prepares outlines, summaries, status reports, statistical analyses, graphs, charts, tables and slides for distribution and communication to project team members, collaborators, and sponsors
• Develops and executes communications that promote the project; in general, these include, but are not limited to assisting the PI, project team members, and collaborators with high quality, clear, and impactful communication through multiple modalities, coordinating website development and updates, social media content, and project marketing materials
• Provides PI and project team members with support in materials writing and editing as needed.
• Creates and edits project documents and assists in the writing of grant reports and other high-level correspondence.
• Assists in the design and formatting of visual materials to support written work and presentations.
• Collaborates with investigators to edit and revise manuscripts to optimize clarity and impact
• Interacts with program staff and investigators to effectively present their work to a broad audience, including scheduling and conducting interviews with faculty and writing & revising lay summaries of faculty research.
• Helps manage collaborator relations and acts as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders.
• Compiles grant and project reports and recommendations, as requested.
• Orders supplies and equipment.
• Trains junior team members as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five years of human subjects research experience.
• Effective attention to detail and communication skills, both orally and in writing
• Proficient with Excel spreadsheets, RedCap database, database management, and electronic medical records systems (ex EPIC)
• Masters degree in a related field, including but not limited to genetics, neuropsychology, genetic counseling, biology, neuroscience
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
• Previous writing and communications experience
• Experience with human-centered design, neuropsychology, genetics, or implementation science
• Bilingual (Spanish)
