The Kotsakis Lab has a postdoctoral fellow position available in the fields of microbiome, bioinformatics, and mucosal immunology research. The successful applicants will work on methods, strategies, and NIH studies led by Dr. Georgios Kotsakis in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with an emphasis on transcriptomics.
Positions are available in the NIH-funded Translational Periodontal Research Lab at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to develop new avenues to elucidate the subtle micro-environmental triggers that otherwise commensal bacteria leverage to turn into pathobionts that perturb host healthy homeostasis and result in oral inflammatory diseases. The lab’s current research projects are centered around our investigation of the effect that biomedical implant degradation products have on the activation of host immune surveillance mechanisms employing cellular and murine disease models. The goal is to develop novel pharmacological treatments and therapies to alleviate the burden of peri-implant disease, periodontal disease and chronic low-grade inflammation leading to systemic inflammatory disease.
Successful applicants will work on bioinformatics and immunological research and will play a key role in making exciting discoveries and publishing novel manuscripts in high impact journals.
