What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you'll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be part of a group in Pfizer comprises experts in the major scientific disciplines involved in the discovery and preclinical development of small molecule drugs. Specifically, you will be involved in molecular design, synthesis, computational chemistry, pharmacology, chemical biology, structural biology, analytical chemistry etc.

You will play a vital role as a key contributor in large, multi-disciplinary matrix teams from project inception through to delivery of clinical drug candidates. You will provide key contributions to the implementation of medicinal chemistry strategies through development and execution of innovative synthetic chemistry and help to revolutionize our approach to the discovery and development of small molecule and synthetically-derived drugs.

You will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of the discipline, you will be an active team member whose decisions impact the project. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Contribute and influence at the project team level.
  • Develop and enable versatile and modular synthetic routes compatible with rapid new target synthesis, and will validate these routes through reduction to practice.
  • Respond well to scientific challenge and applies significant rigor to their own work.
  • Apply crystallization process development fundamentals, modeling tools, and experimental skills to develop robust crystallization processes for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and intermediates.
  • Design chemical probes for cellular protein activity profiling.
  • Learn medicinal chemistry design principals and apply learning to prioritize activities within the synthesis team.
  • Publish and present research internally and externally to Pfizer.
  • Perform laboratory experiments and perform complex scientific data analysis.
  • Liaise with outsourcing point of contact in the team to ensure optimum transfer of the enabled chemistry to allow for rapid analog synthesis externally.
  • Author and review technical documents, reports, production records, technology transfer reports.
  • Follow all Pfizer safety, training and laboratory research guidelines to work in compliance with all regulations and standard procedures.


Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 9+ years of experience
  • Experience in the application of innovative methodologies for successful execution of highly challenging synthetic chemistry
  • Strong knowledge of techniques related to purification and characterization of organic compounds
  • Comfortable working in a highly innovative team environment and can effectively cope with change
  • Scientifically challenge others in the group in a constructive manner and demonstrate exceptional team working skills to ensure the group as a whole is successful
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills


Nice-to-Have

  • Master's degree or PhD and 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in mentoring and development of junior scientists or students
