ROLE SUMMARY

The Quantitative Epidemiologist/Advanced Analytic Lead will collaborate with GME epidemiology scientists and shared services customers (ECD, Clinical, Medical Affairs, Statistics, Safety Surveillance Research) to lead the development of advanced analytic capability for GME such as disease progression models, deep phenotyping, and machine learning techniques as well as the analyses for GME studies and regulatory queries within GME, develop statistical analysis plan, conduct data analysis, and generate real world evidence of drug effectiveness and safety, comprehensive background rates, and characterization of the natural history of diseases and indicated patient population. The quantitative epidemiologist/advanced analytic lead will have internal and external reputation for excellence in the use of quantitative and innovative epidemiologic/statistical/computational methods. Demonstrated expertise in negotiating scientific and operational decisions with cross-functional teams, external collaborators, and, as needed, regulators.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads advanced analytics such as disease progression models, deep phenotyping, and machine learning techniques
  • Provides quantitative support to various components of Epidemiology deliverables for development and product teams, including:
  • Epidemiology and RWD Research Strategy
  • Epidemiology sections for other regulatory documents (e.g. regulatory queries)
  • Background epidemiology studies, natural history of disease studies and user characterization studies
  • Effectiveness and safety studies and their feasibility assessments as needed
  • Other epidemiology studies (e.g. health disparity research, special subpopulations, new indications)
  • Develop Statistical Analysis Plan and apply epidemiologic/statistical methods to support early development, drug benefit/risk analyses etc.
  • Lead/conduct quantitative analyses of public use and private data sources
  • Provide critical quantitative assessment of epidemiological data and literature relevant to medical and safety issues
  • Present and publish results of advance analytics and epidemiological studies at scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals
  • Work independently on multiple projects prioritizing according to Quantitative Epidemiology and Analytic (QEA) group and departmental needs
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders internally and externally, and interact with regulatory agencies on epidemiologic issues, as needed
  • Perform and document quality control checks for analysis reports/programs and contribute to ensuring the quality of Epidemiological analytical in-house work as well as external work, as needed
  • Identify opportunities within the department for efficiency/process improvement, contingency plans, and alternate strategies, as appropriate
  • Mentor junior quantitative epidemiologic analysts


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctoral degree (PhD)in Epidemiology (with strong statistical focus), Statistics, Biostatistics, or related quantitative discipline, and with 5 years or more experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and/or regulatory agencies
  • Master degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology (with strong statistical/computational focus), or related quantitative discipline, and 8 years or more experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • In-depth understanding of and sustained demonstration of expertise in innovative methods such as machine learning, and natural language processing, disease progression models etc. as well as epidemiologic methods, including observational study designs and analyses, and appropriate sample size calculation methodology
  • Demonstrated ability to design and conduct high-quality epidemiological studies in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and/or regulatory agencies
  • In depth understanding of drug development process, including regulatory aspects
  • In-depth knowledge of public and private epidemiologic resources and databases
  • Experience supporting a range of therapeutic areas or deep expertise in one or more of the following: Rare disease, I&I, Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Vaccines/hospitalization.
  • Independently serve as Analytic lead of projects with methodological complexity and lead multiple projects independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally and interact with internal stakeholders and shared services customers
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with experts from diverse disciplines and Established contributor to internal and external strategic initiatives
  • Proficiency in SAS programming (including statistical analysis procedures) and R programming; and knowledge with other statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, Stata, or SUDAAN)
  • Represents Pfizer GME in selected external committees as needed


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with rapid real cycle analytic tools such as Instant Health Data (IHD), Aetion Evidence Generation Platform, CEWorks, and more
  • Understanding of inference and probability; knowledge of contemporary linear modeling including mixed models, particularly longitudinal models; nonlinear regression; predictive modeling (e.g. random forests, support vector machines), and natural language process
  • External reputation for excellence in the use of innovative methods and quantitative epidemiologic methods


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The position will require the ability to perform innovative mathematical computations & complex data analysis, urgent regulatory queries with high quality.

For roles based in New York City: The annual base salary for this position ranges from $150,900.00 to $251,400.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
