The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. This position will be in support of Dr. Pazgier's lab at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, MD. Candidates are expected to work on ongoing research projects in structural biology with the aim to understand the molecular basis of the adaptive immune response to HIV-1 and Sars-Cov-2 and the ultimate goal to develop new protein-based therapeutics and novel vaccine concepts.  Candidates with an immunological background are invited to apply.

Candidates need to be highly motivated individuals who enjoy working as part of a dynamic, collaborative and multidisciplinary team. Preference will be given to candidates with exceptionally strong experimental skills, a strong record of peer-reviewed publications, and a demonstrated commitment to basic and transitional research.

 

Responsibilities

HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow is Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures.
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Experience in molecular cloning, protein expression, molecular interaction analysis, X-ray crystallography and/or Cryo-EM
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting. 

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree 
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.
