The Neuroscience Department within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge, MA is searching for a motivated and innovative PhD or MD/PhD research investigator with demonstrated expertise in neurodegeneration interested in defining the next generation of medicines for neurodegenerative diseases. This role could be at Associate Director or Director level.

The candidate will lead a group that performs pre-clinical experimental work to support the discovery and early development of therapeutic interventions addressing the pathological processes involved neurodegenerative diseases. A strong background in neuroscience and experience in therapeutics discovery are essential. Experience leading multidisciplinary discovery project teams, in the design of strategies to solve challenges, execute experiments, and communicate findings to the team and manage a broad stakeholder group. Excellent communication and teamwork will be critical.

What you’ll be doing:
The Associate Director/Director will provide strategic and team leadership on drug discovery and early development projects and initiatives throughout the therapeutics lifecycle, and lead broad technology development areas within department and across NIBR. Widely recognized as a strong team leader and/or a deep expert in your area, you will assess impact, limitations, and added value of scientific activities in order to define team's strategic objectives, advance related projects, and/or significantly expand scientific/technical knowledge within one or several related areas.

In addition, this key role will support our discovery efforts to identify, validate and pursue targets in the neurodegeneration field to address the high medical needs in age related brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS and progression in multiple sclerosis.

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
PhD or MD/PhD

Postdoctoral experience in Neuroscience followed by at least 10 years in industry.

2+ years of drug discovery experience.

Expertise in biochemistry/molecular biology, neuronal culture and proven experience in pursuing scientific investigation of (patho) physiology of neurodegeneration.

Thorough knowledge of in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, across a broad range of therapeutic modalities.

Work successfully under minimal supervision, be team-oriented and collaborative.

Demonstrated experience in leadership and mentorship of trainees, junior and senior lab associates

Demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and adept at trouble shooting.
