This is an opportunity for a Research Scientist to join the Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment Research laboratory (Swedish Neuroscience Institute, Cherry Hill, Seattle, WA). The Ivy Center’s research focus is brain tumors and developing new therapeutic approaches for these difficult-to-treat diseases. Specifically, this position is for a federally funded research project investigating alternative splicing events in glioblastoma using transcriptomics, proteomics, and cell-based assays. The Research Scientist will lead the alternative splicing project at 50% effort and remaining 50% effort will be devoted to other lab research projects (such as exploring the potential role of viruses in tumors and developing immuno-oncology approaches). Preference is for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in cancer research and experience with federally funded grants. The position requires a Ph.D. in a related field, and excellent hands-on technical laboratory skills.

Independent conduct and oversight or administration of mission relevant research activities at Swedish Medical Center. Demonstrated success in obtaining funding to implement research project or study from industry or other sources. Primary responsibility for failure/success of each project or study. May be responsible for supervision of research conduct of staff supporting study required activities. Responsible for significant contribution to published work in peer reviewed journals.

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Laboratory science, biological science, physics, or a related field
  • 5 years of progressively more responsible research experience in a working laboratory or clinical area
  • Reputation as an emerging leader in field with sustained performance and accomplishments
  • As demonstrated through success in obtaining funding to implement research project, or study from industry or other sources
  • Sustained publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Other professional involvement/achievements or awards.
