The Bioconjugates group at NIBR-San Diego is a key contributor to the global Novartis effort to bring innovative medicines to patients. We strive to bring new molecules from idea to clinical trial, including in the xRNA delivery space. The group is seeking an expert in siRNA design and screening to lead individual projects and contribute broadly to a platform level effort on both traditional siRNA approaches as well as siRNA bioconjugate targeted delivery, and beyond.
The successful Principal Scientist candidate will join a highly collaborative team of antibody experts, chemists, data scientists, and other drug hunters with diverse expertise, devoted to addressing unmet medical need in a wide range of human diseases.

Your responsibilities are, but are not limited to:
• Drive collaboration at the team and platform levels to support progression of multiple projects across different disease areas
• Provide leadership and innovation within siRNA lead discovery activities including strategies for siRNA modification and sequence design
• Work with nucleic acid chemistry teams and external collaborators to build, test, and implement novel chemistries and approaches to optimize siRNA drug candidates
• Identify lead siRNA candidates by developing and utilizing the appropriate biological assays
• Maintain knowledge of internal and external advances in the areas of expertise
• Communicate effectively with diverse project teams and other core groups across NIBR to effectively advance molecules toward clinical trials

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
• PhD in biochemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics or related discipline
• Demonstrated expertise with siRNA discovery, including library design, sequence optimization and modification
• Experience with in vitro cell-based assays and strong experimental troubleshooting skills
• Ability to strategically apply resources across parallel efforts
• Experience leading and developing talent within teams and/or as a direct manager
• Creativity, excellent communication skills, and a history of accountability to quality outputs

Desired Qualifications:
• 2 year+ post-doc or equivalent industry experience
• Expertise in flowchart screening strategies and assay development
• Knowledge relating to assessing on vs. off-target silencing by siRNA
• Hands-on experience with plate-based and cell-based pharmacology assays and automated workstation
• Understanding of and/or hands-on experience with text mining, basic programing, and/or NGS analysis is a plus

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $113,00 and $169,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/22 through 12/31/22, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
