You will be part of Pfizer's Worldwide Research and Development team that employs a multidisciplinary approach to identify and target cancer cell cycle for developing the next generation Oncology therapeutics and therapeutic combinations. You will contribute to early discovery and protein engineering for the development of novel biotherapeutics. You will be responsible for extensive molecular biology, tissue culture and cell biology benchworks, including vector engineering, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), cloning, cell line engineering and cell-based assay development. You will also contribute to protein/antibody expression and purification, biophysical characterizations and target validation.

With your deep knowledge in the discipline, you will be an active team member who influences at the project team level. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience and consulting others. Your ability to plan will help in preparing short-term work activities on projects. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide your team members.

The Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) group in La Jolla, CA is focused on the discovery and engineering of large molecule immunotherapeutics that promote anti-tumor activity or counter immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment. Our efforts are supported by a commitment to effective biotherapeutic design that stresses both ingenuity and simplicity. Our team takes a holistic approach to therapeutic design through a deep understanding the interplay of tumor, stromal, and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment.

We are seeking a qualified Scientist level candidate to join CID's Immunotherapeutic Design (ITD) subgroup and contribute to our world-class therapeutic antibody discovery and engineering efforts. Your goal will be to use your deep interest in antibody discovery and therapeutic design innovate and develop the next-generation of protein therapeutics for cancer immunotherapy. The role will require abilities to discover, design, express and characterize novel biotherapeutics. The successful candidate will use to work closely with other individuals in antibody production, protein engineering and immunology/oncology.

The successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to succeed in a teamwork environment. The candidate must also maintain up-to-date entries in an electronic notebook and present original scientific results to collaborators and at team meetings. This position will not have direct reports; however, demonstrating proactive leadership as a contributing team member is highly valued and a preferred quality for this position. There will be less than 5% travel.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Carry out hands-on lab work for antibody discovery (Hybridoma, Phage and Yeast Display)
  • Antibody screening (ELISA, flow cytometry).
  • Antibody purification and analytics (affinity chromatography, size exclusion chromatography using FPLC, SDS-PAGE, western blot).
  • Molecular Biology: Library generation, sequencing, cloning, DNA prep., expression vector design using software.
  • Cell culture maintenance, cryopreservation and cataloging of cell lines.
  • Data analysis and reporting.


Qualifications

Must-Have
  • BS or MS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with mammalian cell-culture, suspension and adherent.
  • Experience with antibody and protein expression, purification and analytics.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as:Cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, DNA sequencing and analysis.
  • Screening experience:ELISA, flow cytometry.


Nice-to-Have

  • Previous industrial experience, strongly preferred.
  • Experience with diverse antibody screening techniques
  • Immunization techniques and library construction
  • Antibody affinity measurements (SPR or BLI)
  • Hands-on experience with instruments such as fortebio Octet, GE AKTA Pure/Avant, Perkin-Elmer LabChip, liquid handling robots, Biacore T200 or 8K.
  • Motivated, proactive, and eager to learn new skills.
  • Strong, committed work ethic and demonstrated interest in protein biotherapeutics.

  • Work Location Assignment: On Premise. On Premise colleagues work in a Pfizer site because it's needed to get their job done. They may have flexibility to work remotely from time to time, but they are primarily on-site.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $69,900.00 to $116,500.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 7.5% of the base salary. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.

Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
