We have an exciting new Radiochemist Investigator position available in Molecular Imaging within the In-vivo Bioimaging team at GSK!

The successful candidate will work in a state-of-the-art pre-clinical Bioimaging facility located at our world-class R&D site in Collegeville, PA. The facility house: a radiochemistry lab (a hot cell, Sofie Biosciences ELIXYS Platform, HPLC, TLC, Tracer QC system, Cell incubator); Mediso MultiScan LFER150 PET/CT; Siemens Inveon PET/SPECT/CT; Bruker 4.7T/40cm horizontal and 9.4T/8.9cm vertical MRI systems; GE & VisualSonics Ultrasound; IVIS, and FMT Optical imaging systems; and a Laser Doppler imaging equipment.

We welcome applications from highly motivated individuals interested in delivering imaging biomarkers to support drug discovery and development efforts. A goal of this research will be to develop radiolabeling methods of both small and large molecules internally and externally (working with academic institutions, and CRO's), using radioisotopes such as C-11 , F-18 , Zr-89 , Cu-64 , Ga-68 , I-124, In-111 and Tc-99m and imaging capabilities in animals which will be used to better inform teams on optimal molecule and clinical dose selection. This will lead to reducing attrition in the clinic by providing whole body biodistribution profiles of molecules within organs to help optimize target engagement and understand safety concerns leading up to first - time in human studies.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…

  • Develop radiochemistry methods for the preparation of radiolabeled small and large molecules .
  • Develop and execute methods for the characterization of radiolabeled compounds , using techniques such as radio-TLC and radio-HPLC, LC-MS etc.
  • Develop and perform bioanalytical characterization of radiolabeled compounds such as cell assays , radio-ELISA, protein-ligand conjugation and in vitro assays , etc.
  • Perform regular syntheses of radiotracers on automated synthesis devices.
  • Introduce and develop emerging technologies to track small molecules biodistribution (e.g., “click” chemistry), auto radiolabeling

  • Provide radiochemistry/imaging guidance/solutions and collaborate closely with the Bioimaging department, the Medicinal Chemistry department and the Clinical Imaging team.
  • Responsible for working with external collaborators (academic centers and CROs) to develop radiochemistry methods.
  • Perform in vivo Bioimaging studies to support the needs of Discovery and Platform Technology business partners ranging from drug design through safety evaluation to product/device development.
  • Responsible for study support and data generation/management and communication to project/program teams
  • Ensure radiation safety during radiosynthesis and radioanalytical chemistry operations .
  • Maintain compliance with company and departmental policies and procedures.

Bioimaging at GSK

The Bioimaging department brings together key areas of in vivo and ex vivo imaging combined with histology to understand both disease state and intervention, combining data on drug distribution with the effect that distribution has on intact biological systems. At GSK we believe that the fewer barriers there are in delivering the science, the better our delivery of new medicines to patients. As part of the wider In Vitro/In Vivo Translation platform we encourage enterprise collaboration as well as external partnership with the wider scientific community to achieve our full potential.
