The Hit Discovery and Optimization group at our Groton campus leverages state-of-the-art bioanalytical technologies, automation and novel approaches for identification and biopharmaceutical characterization of lead chemical matter. We work in partnership with various disciplines to accelerate project progression and support the Pfizer portfolio as a whole.

What You Will Achieve

The qualified candidate will join a dynamic lab at the forefront of early drug discovery, employing an array of bioanalytical methodologies to detect new chemical entities in in vitro biopharmaceutical screening samples. The individual will also work collaboratively with partner lines to execute fit-for-purpose, high-throughput bioanalyses across established support platforms, and on development of new technologies/capabilities that accelerate discovery operations.

How You Will Achieve It

-Support high-throughput in vitro biopharmaceutical screening operations using liquid-chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC-MS)

-Collaborate with partner lines to develop and execute novel, fit-for-purpose high-throughput bioanalytical methods in support of hit validation and in vitro pharmacology

-Contribute to development of new capabilities and evaluation of emerging technologies

-Operate, maintain and troubleshoot specialized LC-MS instrumentation and platforms

-Document experimental results, perform critical review of data, and present findings internally and externally

-The colleague must be able to interact with peers and leaders in a multidisciplinary team, organize, prioritize and multitask effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment

QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Have
  • BS in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or Biochemistry with 2-4 years relevant laboratory experience, OR, MS in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or Biochemistry with 1 -3 years relevant laboratory experience.
  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry including method development and regular use in research work (academia or industry)
  • Experience with in vitro laboratory techniques
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment and automation
  • A commitment to timely delivery of quality work and overcoming obstacles in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstration of excellent computer, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred
  • BS, MS in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry with 3 years Pharma laboratory experience
  • Hands-on experience with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), including instrumentation and software.
  • Experience with small molecule LC-MS method development
  • Experience with plate-based in vitro techniques, in pharmacology or ADME studies.
  • Familiarity with liquid-handling automation
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation and/or processes based on experimental data
  • An ability to collaborate with team members in immediate group and across disciplines
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office software suite


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The position will require the scientist to work in the laboratory, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to perform practical laboratory bench work and work on a computer (while standing or sitting).
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret data.
  • Skilled in written and spoken English.
