Job Purpose

As a “Post-Doc Research Associate: Development of novel Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) formulations with adjuvants for mRNA and protein vaccines” you will lead development of novel Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) formulations with adjuvants to induce potent and durable adaptive immunity from mRNA and protein vaccines.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and contribute towards GSK's efforts to develop new formulation and delivery strategies to enhance the safety, efficacy and longevity of its mRNA and subunit protein vaccine platforms. The role would allow the candidate to lead a highly multidisciplinary project in a matrix team environment involving immunology, formulation sciences and adjuvants teams and use cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art instruments and laboratories at GSK to advance the RNA and protein vaccine field. This will be a highly collaborative project between various GSK teams for developing and physico-chemical characterization of new LNP and adjuvant formulations using DOE approach and deep characterization of vaccine potency and immune responses in vitro and in vivo.

This role will be primarily located at GSK (Rockville, Maryland, US).

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical engineering, Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Immunology, Biology or a related scientific field with research experience
  • Laboratory hands-on experience with demonstrated success in RNA-Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) and protein adjuvant formulations.
  • Laboratory hands-on experience in making formulations containing RNA, LNP, adjuvants, small molecule immunomodulators and protein antigens using NanoAssemblr, Microfluidic devices & other technologies and performing analytical techniques like HPLC/UPLC, DLS, CD, zeta potential, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometry and RNA-related analytics like Ribogreen assays, gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, etc.
  • Experience with innate sensing and immunological testing of vaccine formulations in mice models.


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Experience in/understanding of immunology especially mechanisms of innate and adaptive immunity of vaccines and formulations and/or molecular biology.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and a team player in a cross-functional collaborative environment.
  • Experience in discovery and/or early development of biopharmaceuticals.
  • Good understanding of biopharma / vaccine development process.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.


To be successful in the role, this person would need the ability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data; must be comfortable conversing with opinion leaders regarding highly technical information; must be a self-starter able to handle multiple projects concurrently; possess a good balance of creative, analytical and strong communication skills; ability to be productive and successful in an intense work environment and he/she must be a Team Player.
